Softball Opens Weekend with Two Wins

WILMINGTON, North Carolina – The UNCW softball team tallied 17 hits over two games to earn a pair of Friday wins over Georgetown and Iona at Boseman Field.

The Seahawks (6-5) edged the Hoyas (2-2) by a 1-0 score in the weekend opener before using a five-run second to surge past the Gaels (1-6), 6-0, in the nightcap.

Freshman Emily Whitwell continued her torrid start to her college career with five hits on Friday, including the eventual game-winning RBI against Georgetown to highlight a three-hit game in the bottom of the sixth inning.

UNCW's Lynsie Herman and Camille Hamilton (2-0) combined to blank the Hoyas, with Hamilton notching five strikeouts.

Madison Biddle kick-started the go-ahead second against Iona with a two-run single. Becca Merrick also drove in the first of her two RBIs in the same frame with a single.

UNCW's Makayla Huddleston (2-4) stranded the bases loaded in the first inning to post four scoreless frames with six strikeouts while Peyton Eckert picked up her first save of 2026 with three scoreless innings.

Georgetown's Emily Collins (1-1) and Iona's Allison Hoppe (0-4) were on the losing ends of decisions against the Seahawks.

UNCW returns to action with two games against Iona and Lafayette beginning at 3 p.m.
