Softball Continues Strong Weekend

WILMINGTON, North Carolina – The UNCW softball team remained unbeaten on the weekend with wins over Iona and Lafayette on a rainy Saturday afternoon at Boseman Field.

The Seahawks (8-5) blanked the Gaels (1-8) by a 3-0 score in a game that withstood a rain delay of nearly two hours before handling the Leopards (1-8) 5-2 late Saturday night.

A three-run fifth inning, highlighted by a Peyton Carver RBI bunt single and capped by a Becca Merrick two-run double, was all UNCW needed to support scoreless outings by Lynsie Herman and Camille Hamilton (3-0) in the Saturday opener.

Merrick drove in her third run of the day against Lafayette, along with a Madison Biddle RBI triple that missed leaving the park by inches and a pair of RBI infield singles by leadoff speedster Cassidy Relay.

Taylor Barlow (2-0) surrendered two runs over four innings while Makayla Huddleston earned a save with three shutout relief innings that included five strikeouts.

Iona's Isabella DiGiandomenico (1-2) and the Leopards' Jordan Goedel (0-3) were on the losing ends of decisions against the Seahawks.

UNCW is currently scheduled to play Georgetown at 12:30 p.m. on Sunday. Check UNCWSports.com and UNCW Softball social accounts for any game updates.
