Six Seahawks Reach Double Figures in Thursday Night Win

WILMINGTON, North Carolina – Six UNCW men's basketball players reached double figures and the Seahawks closed the game on a 15-4 run over the final 4:19 to earn a 79-69 triumph over Monmouth in Thursday night Coastal Athletic Association action at a sold-out Trask Coliseum.

The Seahawks (23-4, 12-2 CAA) remain perched atop the league standings with their fourth straight win while snapping the Hawks' (14-13, 8-6 CAA) three-game win streak.

Senior Nolan Hodge notched 16 points on 4-of-8 shooting from the three-point line while redshirt junior Patrick Wessler scored all 13 of his points in the second half to go with 12 rebounds for his CAA-leading 13th double-double.

Senior Noah Ross converted all six of his free throw attempts en route to 12 points while guard Jahnathan Lamothe chipped in a season-high 11 points. Christian May and Madison Durr each contributed 10.

Hawks guard Kavion McClain tallied a career-high 27 points while forward Stefanos Spartalis recorded a double-double of 13 points and 10 rebounds.

UNCW carried a 36-31 lead into halftime before Monmouth flipped the advantage with the first seven points of the second half and outscored the Seahawks 20-8 the first 7:32 following intermission for a game-high eight-point lead, 51-43, at the 12:28 mark.

Ross then started a 10-0 run with a layup that ended with a 53-51 UNCW lead after Hodge splashed a three with 10:04 to go. The lead flipped three times over the next six minutes with both teams going on 7-0 spurts to set up a one-point game with 4:19 left.

The Seahawks then rattled off a game-changing 11-0 run to take a 75-65 lead with under a minute to go. Durr was good for four free throws in the final minute to put the finishing touches on the win.

UNCW limited Monmouth to 25 percent shooting over the final 12 minutes of the contest.

The Seahawks will travel to Buies Creek for a 4 p.m. contest vs. Campbell on Saturday. UNCW edged the Camels 78-75 when the teams met in Wilmington on Jan. 17.
