UNCW Hands Coastal First Loss of 2026

WILMINGTON, N.C. – UNCW won five singles matches to knock off visiting Coastal Carolina, 5-2, to hand the Chanticleers their first loss of the season on Wednesday at the UNCW Tennis Complex.

UNCW evened its record at 2-2 with its second straight win, while CCU fell to 5-1.

Coastal claimed the doubles point to take an early 1-0 lead.

The Seahawks, however, began their come-from-behind effort with Alex deGabriele making quick work of his opponent at third singles, 6-2 and 6-1. Tomas Marin gave UNCW the lead by picking up the second point at fifth singles with a 6-2, 6-3 victory.

UNCW's Lukas Steffan earned his second straight win at number one singles 6-3, 6-2) to lift the Seahawks to a 3-1 lead.

Brady Hussey clinched the match at sixth singles with another straight-set UNCW victory (6-3, 6-1).

Jordi Domenech collected UNCW's final point of the match, taking second singles, 6-4, 6-1.

UNCW returns to action on Feb. 20 with a 1 p.m. start at North Florida.
