WILMINGTON, North Carolina – UNCW shot 52.9 percent in the second half and closed the game on a 6-0 run to race past Hofstra, 70-66, in Saturday afternoon Coastal Athletic Association men's basketball action at a sold-out Trask Coliseum.

The Seahawks (22-5, 11-2 CAA) claimed their third straight game of the week on Homecoming while snapping the Pride's (17-10, 8-6 CAA) four-game win streak.

Redshirt junior Patrick Wessler scored 14 of his team-high 18 points in the second half to go with nine rebounds. Senior Christian May added 13 points while Madison Durr chipped in 11 and Nolan Hodge finished with 10.

Hofstra guards Cruz Davis and Preston Edmead combined for 43 points, while starting forward Joshua DeCady contributed 14 points.

In a game that featured 10 ties and 14 lead changes, the Pride took a 66-64 lead with 2:20 to go on a DeCady three-pointer. May then responded with a trifecta of his own 20 seconds later and the Seahawks closed out the win at the free throw line, converting three free throws in the final minute for the win.

UNCW carried a slim 34-32 lead at halftime, but Hofstra took a nine-point lead in the first 10 minutes of the second half with a 10-0 run that featured six points from Davis and Edmead. The Seahawks then rattled off 13 of the next 18 points to make it a one-possession game entering the final six minutes.

The Seahawks close out their three-game homestand on Thursday against Monmouth at 7 p.m.
