Silver Nets Career-high 27 Points, UNCW Falls To Tribe

WILLIAMSBURG, Va. – Kylah Silver scored a career-high 27 points on Sunday, but UNCW came up on the short end of a 79-68 loss to William & Mary in Coastal Athletic Association women's basketball action at Kaplan Arena.

The Tribe improved to 11-9 overall and 4-5 in the CAA with the home win while the Seahawks dropped to 5-16 and 1-9.

Silver's 27 points topped her previous career high of 22 set earlier this season against Presbyterian and later equaled against Queens. The red-shirt sophomore guard finished 11-of-17 from the floor, knocked down three three-pointers and grabbed five rebounds. Her 11 field goals made were also a career best.

Junior guard Paige Smith added 19 points off the bench, knocking down 7-of-13 field goal attempts.

Rori Cox posted a double-double with 10 points and a season-high 13 rebounds. For Cox, a graduate student guard, it was her third double-double of the season and second straight.

Cassidy Geddes' 18 points led four William & Mary players in double figures. Alexa Mikeska (16), Cassidy Geddes (15) and Kyah Smith (14) rounded out the high-scoring quartet, which also combined for all 10 of the Tribe's three-pointers made. Smith knocked down 4-of-7 triples.

Leading 34-30 at the intermission, William & Mary saw the Seahawks climb to within 39-37 with 7:07 left in the third quarter. However, Geddes scored five points to fuel a 14-5 run to make it a 55-42 lead with 2:43 left.

The Seahawks visit conference-leader College of Charleson on Feb. 6 for a 7 p.m. start.
