Volleyhawks Fall In Five To CAA Leading Hofstra

WILMINGTON, N.C. – Trailing 2-0, UNCW fought back to force a fifth set before falling to Coastal Athletic Association leader Hofstra, 3-2 (22-25, 20-25, 25-16, 25-21, 14-16) on Friday in volleyball action at Hanover Hall.

The Pride remains perfect at 7-0 in the league while improving to 12-3 overall. The Seahawks, whose modest three-match winning streak was halted, dropped to 3-2 in the CAA and 8-9 overall.

The Seahawks held a 14-11 lead in the final set before four consecutive kills from Hofstra's Constanza Perez Sain recorded four straight kills to end the match.

Perez Sain led all hitters with 22 kills on the evening and finished with a .340 hitting average.

Sam Vanda's career-high 18 kills led the Seahawks, and she rounded out a double-double with 11 digs. Also posting double-doubles for the UNCW were Elaina Murphy with 16 kills and 14 digs, and Gaby Zovko adding 43 assists and 14 digs in addition to seven kills and seven blocks.

The series wraps up on Saturday at 2 p.m.
