UNCW Held Off By Red-Hot Monmouth

WEST LONG BRANCH, N.J. – Monmouth rallied in the fourth quarter and held off UNCW late, as the Hawks bested the Seahawks, 52-50, in Coastal Athletic Association women's basketball action Friday afternoon at OceanFirst Bank Center.

Monmouth extended its winning streak to eight with the win and pushed its record to 10-4 overall and 3-0 in the CAA. For the Seahawks, their record dropped to 5-9 and 1-2.

Down 51-48 in the final 10 seconds, UNCW's Rori Cox converted a layup to narrow it to 51-50. Madalen Amaro was fouled and hit 1-of-2 from the foul line to close out the scoring.

Cox paced the Seahawks with 16 points while Paige Smith added nine off the bench.

Kylah Silver pulled down nine rebounds for the Hawks.

For Monmouth, Divine DiBula led the way with 13 points while Alexis Andrews and Amaro chipped in 12 and 11, respectively.

After falling behind 25-19 at the intermission, the Seahawks used a 16-3 third quarter run to take the lead, 40-38, going into the final quarter.

UNCW visits Towson next on Jan. 11 for a 1 p.m. start.
