Seahawks Hold Strong at Towson, 82-73

TOWSON, Maryland – In a game that featured 20 lead changes and seven ties, UNCW pulled away down the stretch to earn an 82-73 men's basketball road victory against Towson late Thursday night at SECU Arena.

The Seahawks (19-3) remain perched atop the Coastal Athletic Association with an 8-1 mark at their conference midpoint. The Tigers fell to 4-6 in the circuit and 12-11 overall after dropping their second straight contest.

UNCW senior Nolan Hodge notched his 18th game in double digits with 23 points. Starters Greedy Williams and Patrick Wessler each had 14, with Wessler adding a double-double of 10 rebounds. Towson transfer Christian May contributed 13 while Noah Ross chipped in 11.

Reigning CAA Player of the Year Tyler Tejada scored 16 points, while Jack Doumbia Jr. added 13, and Dylan Williamson reached 12 points.

UNCW, who previously played two games that featured 15 lead changes, surpassed that total in the first half alone (18) carried a narrow 38-36 edge at halftime with neither team leading by more than four points.

The Tigers briefly took the lead with a Doumbia dunk and jumper before the Seahawks rattled off six straight points to build a 45-40 advantage with 15:58 remaining.

From there, UNCW extended its lead as high as eight points two times, including a May three-pointer at the 6:50 mark that made it 67-59, before five straight Towson points made it a one-possession game once again with four minutes to go.

The Seahawks then rattled off six unanswered points, capped by Hodge's career-high seventh three-pointer to build a game-high nine-point edge with 2:44 left.

Towson again chipped away at the lead and had a chance to tie with 29 seconds left, but a Tejada three-pointer clanked off the rim into the outstretched arms of May. Williams then converted six straight free throws to seal the win.

UNCW returns to action next Thursday against William & Mary at 7 p.m. The game will be a White Out and air nationally on CBS Sports Network.
