UNCW Bounces Back with 75-67 Win at Hampton

HAMPTON, Virginia – UNCW senior Greedy Williams matched his career-high with 19 points to go with seven assists as the Seahawks men's basketball team bounced back with a 75-67 victory at Hampton early Saturday at the Hampton Convocation Center.

The Seahawks upped their record to 18-3 and stand 7-1 in Coastal Athletic Association play. The Pirates dropped to 10-11 and an even 4-4 in the league.

Williams, who paced UNCW in scoring for the first time this season, was joined in double figures by center Patrick Wessler, who added eight rebounds to go with 16 points. Seniors Nolan Hodge (13) and Noah Ross (12) joined the duo in double figures.

Hampton's Daniel Johnson (17), Jalyke Gaines-Wyatt (14) and Josh Ogundele (11) combined for 42 points.

The Seahawks, who never trailed in the second half, created an eight-point cushion with 8:01 to go in the game with seven straight points from Wessler following a Johnson three that made it a one-point game at the 10:28 mark.

UNCW established a double-digit lead with an 8-2 spurt down the stretch to go up 72-60 with 63 seconds left.

The first half featured seven ties and seven lead changes, including three in the final three minutes of a first half that saw neither team lead more than five points, an advantage UNCW held on two occasions as it carried a 38-37 edge into the intermission.

The Seahawks close out the front nine of conference play next Thursday at preseason favorite Towson. The game will air nationally at 9 p.m. on CBS Sports Network.
