Men's Tennis Opens With #4 Texas

WILMINGTON, N.C. – The five-time defending Coastal Athletic Association champion UNCW Seahawks open their spring season this weekend at fourth-ranked Texas during the ITA Kick-off Weekend event in Austin, Texas.

Joining the Seahawks and Longhorns are South Florida and Washington, who also faceoff on Friday. The winners from both matches play on Saturday, as will the losers.

Taking on nationally ranked opponents is nothing new for UNCW Head Coach Mait DuBois, who begins his 19th season leading the program. In going 12-8 last spring, the Seahawks faced six ranked-opponents, including top-ranked Wake Forest.

The Seahawk lineup will have a new look in 2026 following the graduation of Joseph Wayand (14-4), Sam Nicholson (12-6) and Harold Huens (11-3), who combined for 37 wins and four conference honors including Wayand being tabbed CAA Player of the Year.

DuBois landed several transfers, including Andrew Hayduke II (North Dakota) and Brady Hussey (Dayton). Hayduke earned All-Summit League honors in singles following an 11-3 mark as a freshman. Hussey was named an all-conference selection in the Atlantic 10 after going 17-9 in singles and 20-11 in doubles during his rookie season.

Lukas Steffen is the top-returning Seahawk after posting an 11-5 record in his first season with the program in 2025. Steffan earned third-team All-CAA honors as a junior.

Weather will be a factor this weekend and will most likely force the matches indoors.
