Elon Pins Women's Basketball With 72-62 Loss

WILMINGTON, N.C. – Ashanti Fox and Tyana Walker combined for 32 points as Elon toppled UNCW, 72-62, in Coastal Athletic Association women's basketball Friday night at Trask Coliseum.

The Phoenix pushed its record to 7-9 on the season and evened it CAA ledger at 2-2. With the home loss, the Seahawks dropped to 5-11 and 1-4 to start the conference schedule.

Laila Anderson added 13 points for the Phoenix, who grabbed 20 offensive rebounds and converted 27 turnovers into 33 points. Walker led the fight on the glass with seven caroms, including five on the offensive end.

Rori Cox paced the Seahawks with 13 points and added a game-high-tying four assists. Kylah Silver added 12 points and finished 8-for-8 from the foul line. The Seahawks finished 20-of-24 from the foul line.

Elon blistered the net from deep in the first half, knocking down 8-of-15 attempts from three-point range in building a 42-33 lead. Fox poured in all 17 of her points in the first half on 5-of-7 shooting from deep.

The Seahawks continue their homestand on Sunday with a 1 p.m. start against Drexel.
