American Turns Back UNCW, 1-0

WASHINGTON, D.C. – The UNCW men's soccer team dropped a 1-0 decision at American in a Tuesday afternoon match at Reeves Field.

The Eagles upped their record to 3-4-1 while the Seahawks' dipped to 2-3-2. It was the fourth straight year the former Coastal Athletic Association opponents played each other.

American reserve midfielder Mustapha Sowe delivered the game-winner in the 62nd minute following a scoreless first half on an assist by Finn O'Brien.

Goalkeepers Trey Smiley of UNCW and Evan Tubbs of American each notched two saves.

The game went into an extended rain delay with 14 minutes remaining before play resumed.

UNCW continues a three-game non-conference stretch on Saturday against Mercer in Wilmington. The Seahawks will honor four seniors – Jack Clarkson, Ethan Newsome, Caleb Powell and Jake Shannon- in a special pregame ceremony prior to the 7 p.m. start.
