Men's Soccer Opens CAA Play vs. Elon

WILMINGTON, North Carolina – The UNCW men's soccer team returns home on Saturday to open Coastal Athletic Association play against defending conference regular season champion Elon at 7 p.m. at the UNCW Soccer Stadium.

Both teams played to a scoreless draw in their previous outings. The Seahawks (0-1-1) earned a 0-0 tie at Georgia Southern on Sunday while the Phoenix (0-0-1) opened their season with a scoreless draw versus Old Dominion on Monday.

Saturday's match can be streamed on FloCollege (subscription required) with Jim Whitmeyer and Marty Feurer on the call. Live Stats will be available on UNCWSports.com/Coverage.

Elon, who will play in Wilmington for the first time since 2022, was tabbed first in the CAA South Division Preseason Coaches Poll, while the Seahawks were projected to finish tied for second with Charleston in the same division.

UNCW midfielder Osei Gyamfi looks to continue to build on his CAA All-Rookie campaign from one year ago. The Kumasi, Ghana, native leads the Seahawks with eight shots through two games this season.

Anchoring the Seahawks' back line is three-time All-CAA selection Jake Shannon, who was named to the All-CAA Preseason squad along with Gyamfi. The 6-2, 175-pound Shannon has played all but one minute in his collegiate career and helped UNCW to 22 clean sheets, including last weekend's road opener, since 2022.

The Seahawks continue league play next Saturday, Sept. 6, at Campbell at 7 p.m.
