Seahawks Fall to Charlotte in Season Opener

WILMINGTON, N.C. – UNCW women's soccer conceded two second-half goals as Charlotte claimed a 2-0 victory in the 2025 season opener on a rainy Thursday afternoon at UNCW Soccer Stadium.

UNCW dropped to 0-1-0 on the season, while Charlotte moved to 1-0-0.

Both teams played nearly an identical first 45 minutes, with each side recording two shots and one corner kick, resulting in a 0-0 tie heading into intermission.

Charlotte's Rachel Logue broke the scoreless tie in the 60th minute, finding the back of the net off a corner from Landry Olson and a following deflection in traffic by Megan Bradley.

Minutes later, the 49ers tacked on a key insurance goal off a free kick from Naroa Domenech on the edge of the 18-yard box in the 66th minute.

Senior forward Ayanna Parker recorded a shot on goal against her former team. In her UNCW debut, junior defender Laney Newnam also recorded a shot on goal for the Seahawks. Redshirt sophomore defender Macy Lutz led UNCW in minutes, playing all 90 in the contest in her first match as a Seahawk.

The Seahawks will travel to Greensboro, North Carolina, to battle UNCG (0-1-0) on Sunday, Aug. 17, with kickoff scheduled for 6 p.m.
