WILMINGTON, North Carolina – UNCW sophomore Taylor Barlow matched a career-high with nine strikeouts as UNCW claimed a 5-3 Coastal Athletic Association softball series-clinching win over Hampton on Senior Day Friday at Boseman Field.
The Seahawks improved to 27-22 with an even 13-13 league record. The Pirates dipped to 15-32 and 5-21 in the CAA.
Barlow (7-7) surrendered three runs across 6.2 innings, after entering in relief of Morgan Britt, who struck out the only batter she faced in her first appearance in the circle since 2020.
The Seahawks totaled nine hits and twice came from behind in the third and fifth innings for the win. Senior Mackenzie Amodeo evened the game 3-3 in the fifth on a sacrifice bunt with two on and sophomore Allison Corbin followed with the go-ahead RBI single.
Sophomore Peyton Carver added an insurance run in the sixth inning as Barlow held Hampton (15-33, 5-21 CAA) scoreless over the final two innings.
The Pirates' Angelina Branch (7-12) took the loss.
UNCW honored seven Seahawks – Mackenzie Amodeo, Britt, Lauren Cope, Arial Pearce, Maggie Pertee, Lauryn Richardson and Elizabeth Winstead – in a special postgame Senior Day ceremony.
The Seahawks and Pirates conclude the series and the season on Saturday at 1 p.m.
