MANASQUAN, N.J. – UNCW women's tennis captured each set in every match to blank Monmouth, 7-0, in Coastal Athletic Association action on Sunday afternoon at The Tennis Center at The Atlantic Club.
UNCW improved to 7-6 on the season and 5-2 in the CAA. The Seahawks have won five of their last six matches, including two shutout wins in conference matches. Monmouth fell to 4-12 overall and 0-3 in the league.
"Our team had a lot of great moments today," head coach Hans Olsen said. "We know how to show up for each other in a meaningful way when it matters most. I'm very proud of where we are as a team right now. Go Hawks!"
Eda Arli and Elif Albayrak improved to 6-4 in No. 1 doubles with a 6-1 victory over Lana Brezanin and Lauren Landstrom.
Lucia Gomez and Anna Parker Shumate clinched the doubles point for the second consecutive match, defeating Hana McKinney and Ximena Cano in No. 3 doubles, 6-3. The duo won their fourth straight match, improving to 6-3 on the season.
Stela Joksimovic and Alicia Eberwein recorded their team-leading eighth doubles win of the season with a 6-4 victory in No. 2 doubles against Becky Fisher and Faith Sadgrove.
In No. 5 singles, Alex Borcich breezed past Sadgrove 6-2, 6-1 to improve to 8-3 on the season.
Gomez earned her eighth victory of the year to put the Seahawks ahead 3-0 with a 6-3, 6-2 win in No. 4 singles against Cano.
Joksimovic clinched the match for UNCW in No. 2 singles, defeating McKinney 7-5, 6-2 for her sixth win.
Katelyn Hubbard won her second straight match in No. 6 singles with a 6-3, 6-1 victory against Parikh.
In No. 1 singles, Arli earned her sixth win and extended the UNCW lead to 6-0 with a 6-3, 6-2 triumph over Brezanin.
Albayrak won her team-leading sixth conference match of the season and recorded her eighth overall win, outlasting Landstrom 7-5, 6-3 in No. 3 singles.
