WILMINGTON, N.C. – UNCW women's tennis earned its third consecutive victory, shutting out Longwood on Senior Day, 7-0, in nonconference action on Saturday afternoon at UNCW Courts.
The Seahawks improved to 8-6 on the season, while the Lancers dropped to 7-12. UNCW celebrated its three seniors, Ananyaa Bhargava, Stela Joksimovic, and Anna Parker Shumate.Â
Joksimovic started her afternoon strong, teaming up with Alicia Eberwein in No. 2 doubles for a 6-0 shutout win against Alexandra Magia and Feline van Eijkelenburg. The pairing posted their third straight win and their team-leading ninth doubles victory.
Shumate played her final match at home in No. 3 doubles, winning her fifth straight and seventh overall doubles match with Lucia Gomez, 6-3, against Oriana Izarra and Phoebe Mitchell.Â
Eda Arli moved to 7-5 on the season, breezing past Karina Rizvanova, 6-2, 6-1 in No. 1 singles, extending the Seahawks' lead to 2-0.
Gomez improved to 9-4, winning her third straight match in No. 3 singles 6-0, 7-5 against Ibarra.Â
The Seahawks clinched the match with a 6-4, 6-0 win in No. 4 singles as Elif Albayrak defeated Mitchell for her fifth consecutive victory.
Alex Borcich tied Albayrak for the most singles wins. The sophomore recorded her ninth win of the season, defeating Magia 6-3, 6-1 on court five to move to 9-3 on the season.
In No. 6 singles, Katelyn Hubbard claimed the winner-take-all 10-point tiebreaker against Elizaveta Gnilozubova, 6-4, 4-6, 1-0 (10-4)
Joksimovic stamped the Seahawks shutout with her seventh win of the season, a comeback victory in No. 2 singles. The senior prevailed 1-6, 6-4, 6-2 in a tightly-contested battle with van Eijkelenburg.
