UNCW Baseball Comes Up Short In Sweep Bid

HEMPSTEAD, N.Y. – UNCW was unable to overcome an early 5-0 deficit through three innings and fell in the Coastal Athletic Association series finale at Hofstra, 6-4, on Saturday at University Field.

The Seahawks, who won the series with a doubleheader sweep on Friday, fell back to .500 at 16-16 with the loss and dipped to 4-5 in CAA play. The Pride improved to 12-20 and 3-6.

All six runs for the Pride came with two outs.

Cam Bagwell (5-1) was saddled with his first loss of the season. He surrendered five runs on seven hits over three innings.

Mac Gillespie and Tanner Thach both homered for the Seahawks.

Tristan Nemjo (1-3) went seven innings in earning the win. Tanner Sanderoff fanned three over two innings for the save.

Nick Biddle had a game-high three hits for the Pride.

UNCW hosts nationally-ranked Coastal Carolina on Apr. 8 at 6 p.m.
