UNCW Never Trails In Win At #13 NC State

RALEIGH, N.C. – Bryan Arendt's two-run home run in the top of the first inning gave UNCW a lead it would never relinquish as the Seahawks knocked off #13 NC State, 6-3, on Tuesday at Doak Field.

The Seahawks raised their record to 24-20 with their third straight win against NC State, which had a seven-game winning streak halted and fell to 30-13.

It was UNCW's third win against a ranked opponent this season, joining then fourth-ranked Georgia and #20 Southern Miss.

Arendt finished with two hits and was joined by Brock Wills, Kevin Jones and Tanner Thach, all with two hits apiece.

Baker Cox (1-1) received the win and led a bullpen that limited the Wolfpack to a run on two hits over the final five innings. Trace Baker tossed a scoreless ninth for his fifth save.

UNCW starter Bromley Thornton gave the Seahawks a four-inning start, allowing two runs.

Chris McHugh led the Pack with two hits and two runs batted in.

Connor Consiglio (1-3) was tagged with the loss for NCSU.

Leading 4-3 in the top of the ninth, the Seahawks tacked on two runs, the second coming on an RBI single by Alec DeMartino.

The Seahawks return to conference play this weekend when they host Monmouth on Friday at 6 p.m.
