Baseball Falls In Finale, 5-2

MOUNT PLEASANT, S.C. – Charleston reliever Alex Lyon shut out UNCW over the final five innings as the Cougars knocked off UNCW, 5-2, on Sunday in Coastal Athletic Association baseball action at Patriots Point.

The Cougars averted a sweep at the hands of the Seahawks to push their record to 24-18 on the season and 8-10 in the league. The Seahawks had their five-game winning streak halted and fell to 23-20 and 11-7 in the CAA.

The Cougars broke a 2-all deadlock in the seventh inning with a pair of runs. Ben Venables singled in the first run and the second came across on a sacrifice fly.

Lyon (7-1) scattered two hits, walked none and struck out four.

Brock Wills had two hits for the Seahawks and drove in a run.

Tyler Sorentino, Avery Neaves and Venables all had two hits for CofC.

Cam Bagwell (7-2) was tagged with the loss for the Seahawks.

The Seahawks conclude their road stretch on April 29 at nationally-ranked NC State.
