Biddle, Pertee Power Seahawks at Elon

ELON, North Carolina – UNCW's Maggie Pertee launched a three-run home run and Madison Biddle fashioned three hits and drove in two runs as the Seahawks evened the Coastal Athletic Association softball series with a 5-4 win at Elon on Saturday at Hunt Softball Park.

The Seahawks (25-21, 11-12 CAA) scored all five runs with two outs to support Makayla Huddleston's (13-8) 6.2 scoreless inning effort the Phoenix, who fell to 26-17 and 18-5 in the league.

Pertee rocketed her third home run of the season in the top of the first far beyond the left-center wall into the trees to put the Seahawks on the board, 3-0.

Elon took the lead in the bottom of the first with a four-run frame that featured four hits and a pair of Seahawk errors. Huddleston entered midway through the inning and stranded two runners to limit the damage.

Biddle drove in the game-tying run in the second and then put UNCW up for good two innings later with a line-drive triple with two outs before the game went into a weather delay for roughly one hour and 20 minutes.

Huddleston was magnificent in the circle, retiring the final 17 batters she faced to earn the win over Elon's Anna Dew (2-5).

The rubber match is set for 1 p.m. on Sunday.
