Lucas Leads UNCW In Series-Clinching Win

MOUNT PLEASANT, S.C. – Trevor Lucas had three hits, homered twice, and UNCW launched a season-high five home runs as the Seahawks clinched a series against the College of Charleston with an 11-6 win on Saturday at Patriot Points.

With the win, the Seahawks improved to 23-19 overall, 11-6 in the league and 9-9 on the road. It was UNCW's fourth straight series win. The Cougars slumped to 23-18 and 7-10 in the CAA.

For Lucas, it was his first multi-home run game, and he finished with three runs batted in. Also homering for the Seahawks were Brock Wills, Alec DeMartino and Bryan Arendt, who also doubled and drove in two runs.

Trace Baker (3-1) was credited with the win and Cooper Allen collected his first save.

Landen Penfield collected three hits and knocked in two runs for the Cougars, who plated five runs in the eighth to make it 9-6 Seahawks. Alex LaCoste added three hits.

CofC starter Daniel Brooks (4-3) was saddled with the loss, going five innings, allowing four runs and striking out six.

The series wraps up Sunday with a 1 p.m. start.
