WILMINGTON, N.C. – Jordi Domenech and Joseph Wayand earned a ranked win in doubles as UNCW men's tennis won its fifth straight match, powering past Liberty, 5-2, in a three-and-a-half-hour nonconference battle at UNCW Courts on Wednesday afternoon.
The Seahawks improved to 8-7 on the season and remain unbeaten at home, moving to 6-0. Liberty dropped to 7-12 overall.
Harold Huens and Lukas Steffen won their fifth match of the year with a 6-4 triumph in No. 3 doubles against Rodrigo Santiago Arraez and Matija Samardzic.Â
Domenech and Wayand clinched the doubles point on a second serve from Domenech to defeat Joaquin Almeida and Siwanat Auytayakul, the nation's No. 52 team, 6-3.Â
The pairing improved to 5-1 on the season, winning their fourth straight match in No. 1 doubles.Â
Sam Nicholson won his fifth consecutive match in No. 2 singles to give the Seahawks a 2-0 lead. The senior defeated Carl Roothman, 6-2, 6-1 in just over an hour.
Huens won his fourth straight match in No. 1 singles, extending the Seahawks lead to 3-1. The reigning CAA Player of the Year recorded the 47th win of his career, defeating Almeida 6-2, 6-2.Â
Domenech also won his fourth straight, clinching the victory for the Seahawks with a 6-4, 6-3 win on court six against Samardzic.Â
In No. 3 singles, Wayand won his sixth consectutive match, earning his team-leading 10th win of the season with a 6-3, 7-5 decision against Auytayakul.Â
