Baseball Rides Longball To Series Sweep

TOWSON, Md. – Cole Nelson and Alec DeMartino finished with three hits apiece and UNCW slugged four home runs on Saturday as the Seahawks finished off a Coastal Athletic Association sweep of Towson with an 11-4 win at Schuerholz Park.

The Seahawks improved to 9-6 in the conference with the sweep and 21-19 on the season. The Tiger saw their records fall to 5-10 in the CAA and 13-27 overall.

UNCW led 5-0 through two innings and a four-run fifth made it 9-0.

Both Nelson and DeMartino homered and were joined by Brock Wills and Trevor Lucas with homers of their own. Wills scored three runs while Nelson knocked in three runs.

Cam Bagwell (7-1) picked up the win with 5.2 innings of work.

Towson starter Dutch DeProspero (2-5) surrendered five runs in two innings.

Max D'Alessandro and Taye Robinson had three hits apiece to pace the Tigers.

UNCW homered 10 times in the sweep and outscored the Tigers, 45-7.

The Seahawks continue their road swing next weekend when they open a conference series at the College of Charleston on Apr.25.
