UNCW Powers Past Towson, 12-3, In Opener

TOWSON, Md. – Trevor Lucas powered the lineup with four hits and Zane Taylor struck out six over 7.2 innings as UNCW earned a 12-3 win over Towson in the Coastal Athletic Association series opener on Thursday at Schuerholz Park.

The Seahawks stacked their record to 19-19 with the win and 7-6 in the conference. The Tigers, meanwhile, fell back to 13-25 and 5-8.

Lucas' four hits, including his sixth home run of the season, were a season-high and he matched his season-high for a third time with the four RBIs. Both Tanner Thach and Bryan Arendt had two hits and homered. For Thach, it was his seventh and the second for Arendt.

Taylor improved to 7-1 with 7.2 innings of work. He allowed three runs, one earned, on five hits. Taylor struck out six and did not walk a batter while lowering his earned run average to 2.75.

The Seahawks scored in each of the first five innings for an 8-0 lead going into the bottom of the fifth.

Jordan Peyton singled twice for Towson. All five hits on the game for the Tigers were singles.

Starter Andrew Luczak (2-3) took the loss, allowing seven runs, five earned, over 3.1 innings.

The series resumes on Friday at 3 p.m.
