Baseball Can't Overcome Four-Run First

GREENVILLE, N.C. – Brock Wills, Bryan Arendt and Trevor Lucas had two hits apiece, but UNCW couldn't overcome a 4-0 first-inning deficit in a 7-3 loss to East Carolina on Tuesday at Clark-LeClair Stadium.

East Carolina improved to 22-16 with the win and win the season series. The Seahawks moved to 18-19.

The Pirates sent eight hitters to the plate in the first inning against losing pitcher Bromley Thornton (0-3) in taking the early lead.

Braden Burress collected a game-high four hits for the Pirates.

Bradley Zayac was credited with the win.

Reliever Baker Cox gave UNCW four inningso of shutout baseball.

UNCW returns to Coastal Athletic Association play on Thursday when it opens a series at Towson.
