Thach Homer Propels UNCW In Series-Clinching Win

WILMINGTON, N.C. – A two-run homer by Tanner Thach in the bottom of the sixth snapped a 4-all tie and propelled UNCW to an 8-4 series-clinching win on Sunday over William & Mary at Brooks Field.

The Seahawks moved to 6-6 in the Coastal Athletic Association and 18-18 on the season. The Tribe, meanwhile, fell to 7-5 in the league and 13-22 overall.

In the sixth inning, Mac Gillespie singled to open the inning and after a pair of quick outs, he came around to score on Thach's sixth homer of the season for a 6-4 lead.

Seahawks starter Cam Bagwell (6-1), who allowed five hits and struck out four, earned the win going seven innings. The Tribe was able to get to him in the third inning after UNCW was unable to end the inning with a double play. Ben Parker followed with a two-run homer to right and two batters later, Lucas Carmichael belted a two-run shot of his own to give W&M a 4-2 lead.

Thach tied the game at 4-all in the fourth inning with a sacrifice fly.

Reliever Connor Kolarov (2-1) was tagged with the loss.

Brady Thompson collected a game-high three hits for the Seahawks and Kevin Jones added two, including a two-run homer that doubled the lead, 8-4, in the seventh.

Jamie Laskofski led the Tribe with two hits.

UNCW visits East Carolina on Apr. 15 for a 6 p.m. start.
