#20 Southern Miss Walks-Off Seahawks, 2-1

WILMINGTON, N.C. – Matthew Russo's leadoff homer in the bottom of the ninth inning lifted nationally-ranked Southern Miss to a 2-1 win over visiting UNCW on Saturday at Pete Taylor Park.

The Golden Eagles, who are ranked as high as 20th in the national polls, improved to 10-5 while the Seahawks fell to 8-7.

Colby Allen (2-1) was the winning pitcher while Aubrey Smith (0-3) was tagged with the loss.

Alec DeMartino, Trevor Lucas and Martin Zelenka all had two-hit games for UNCW. Zelenka had UNCW's lone RBI on the day with a second-inning single that scored Lucas.

UNCW starter Connor Marshburn didn't figure in the decision despite six shutout innings, allowing two hits and a walk and striking out four.

USM starter Kros Sively went seven innings, allowed a run on eight hits and struck out four.

The series wraps up on Sunday with a noon EST start.
