BUIES CREEK, North Carolina – Campbell used a seventh-inning rally to move past UNCW, 5-4, in the Coastal Athletic Association softball opener on Friday evening at Amanda Littlejohn Stadium.
The Camels improved to 13-7 and 1-0 in the conference while the Seahawks fell to 14-7 and are 0-1 in the CAA.
UNCW's Maggie Pertee, Lauryn Richardson and Addi Yates recorded two-hit games for the Seahawks.
The Seahawks plated two runs in both the second and third innings to lead 4-1 after Campbell scored a run in the bottom of the first.
The Camels scored four two-out runs in the bottom of the seventh to complete the rally after UNCW starter Makayla Huddleston (7-3) recorded five strikeouts in 6.2 innings of work.
Campbell's Emily Dameron (5-1) earned the win in five relief innings.
The series resumes on Saturday at Noon.
