Barlow, Seahawks Blank Monmouth

WEST LONG BRANCH, New Jersey – Right-hander Taylor Barlow recorded her first career shutout to lead UNCW to a Coastal Athletic Association softball series-clinching 4-0 win at Monmouth on Saturday afternoon at the MU Softball Park.

The Seahawks (20-12, 6-5 CAA) pushed their win streak to five games and aim for their second straight league sweep in Sunday's series finale against the Hawks (9-25, 5-6 CAA) at Noon.

Barlow (5-3) struck out a career-high nine batters, the second straight start she has reset her career benchmark, and surrendered two hits. The Charlotte transfer has thrown complete games in her last three starts.

The two teams were scoreless until the top of the fourth when sixth-year Morgan Britt singled home Madison Biddle, who started the inning with an infield hit.

UNCW pushed its lead to 3-0 an inning later when sophomores Ava Tsiouplis, Averie Daughtry and Cassidy Relay produced three straight singles and crafty base-running to push home two more runs.

The fourth and final run came in the seventh when Tsiouplis started the frame with a double and advanced to third on a wild pitch. Freshman Sierra Persinger cashed in the run-scoring opportunity with a single one batter later.

Monmouth's Olivia Lewis (2-10) allowed 10 Seahawk hits, including two each by Tsiouplis and Relay.
