WILMINGTON, N.C. – UNCW women's tennis blanked Drexel, 4-0, for their third straight Coastal Athletic Association victory on Friday afternoon at UNCW Courts.
The Seahawks moved to 5-5 on the season and 3-1 in the CAA, while Drexel dropped to 4-6 overall and 1-3 in the conference.Â
"We competed with a lot of positivity today,"Â Head Coach Hans Olsen said. "We worked through some challenges and gained confidence. We are finding the energy that works for us as a team. Go Hawks!"
UNCW received a pair of forfeit victories to begin the match. Lucia Gomez and Anna Parker Shumate won in No. 3 doubles and Alicia Eberwein recorded the victory in No. 6 singles.Â
Stela Joksimovic and Eberwein earned their sixth victory in No. 2 doubles, defeating Rebecca Fiedler and Anastasia Kavounov, 6-4.Â
In No. 5 singles, Alex Borcich defeated Bia Ibrahim, 6-1, 6-0. The sophomore improved to 6-2 on the season, earning her fourth win from the fifth spot.
Elif Albayrak clinched the match for UNCW, earning a pair of 6-2 set wins on court four against Rebecca Fiedler for her fifth win of the season.Â
Eda Arli, Joksimovic, and Lucia Gomez were all leading their respective matches when they went unfinished, as the teams agreed to play to clinch before the match.
