Huddleston Records No-Hitter at Monmouth

WEST LONG BRANCH, New Jersey – Right-hander Makayla Huddleston fashioned the sixth no-hitter in UNCW softball history as the Seahawks picked up an 8-0 run-rule victory over Monmouth in the Coastal Athletic Association series opener on Friday afternoon at the MU Softball Park.

The Seahawks (19-12, 5-5 CAA) ran their win streak to four games while the Hawks (9-24, 5-5 CAA) dropped their eighth straight game.

One week after falling one out shy of a no-hitter, Huddleston (10-5) became the second pitcher in as many years to complete the feat with a three-strikeout effort on the road. The Michigan State transfer faced two batters above the minimum, a first-inning full-count walk and a hit-by-pitch in the fourth.

The sophomore was supported by UNCW's 10th game with at least 10 hits, including a season-high four doubles. UNCW's Morgan Britt and Allison Corbin each had two-hit games while Madison Biddle drove in three runs.

The Seahawks scored a run in every inning off Monmouth pitchers Jayla Cadena (6-8) and Olivia Lewis. 

UNCW broke the game open with a three-run third inning that featured RBI hits by Biddle and Lauryn Richardson.

The series continues on Saturday at Noon.
