Seahawks Tame Tigers in CAA Action 6-1

WILMINGTON, N.C. – UNCW women's tennis earned its first Coastal Athletic Association win of 2025, sweeping Towson in singles competition to defeat the Tigers 6-1 on Saturday afternoon at UNCW Courts.

The Seahawks moved to 3-5 overall and 1-1 in the CAA. UNCW also recorded its first home win of the 2025 campaign. The Tigers dropped to 2-7 on the year and 0-3 in conference play.

"We worked hard out there today," head coach Hans Olsen said. "It was good to feel our competitive mindset as a team today. Great team effort! Go Hawks!"

At No. 2 doubles, Stela Joksimovic and Alicia Eberwein registered the first win of the match, extending their win streak to four with a 6-2 triumph against Ashira Murray and Olivia Rothfield. 

The Tigers responded with a pair of doubles wins to claim the point, but the Seahawks rebounded and solidified the victory by shutting down Towson in all six singles matches.

Eda Arli earned her third victory at No. 1 singles, capturing both sets 6-1, 6-1 against Kiersten Tambe.

At No. 2 singles, Joksimovic earned her third victory of the season with a 6-1, 6-2 decision over Tamzin Pountney. 

Lucia Gomez celebrated her birthday with a 6-1, 6-2 win on court three for her second win of the season, increasing UNCW's lead to 3-1. 

Eberwein clinched the match for the Seahawks at No. 6 singles, winning in straight sets against Aubrey Carper, 6-3, 6-3.

After dropping the first set, Elif Albayrak rebounded to outlast Murray on court four 3-6, 6-3, 1-0 (10-5).

Alex Borcich improved to 5-1 on the season with a 7-6 (7-4), 6-2 win at No. 5 singles over Rothfield to finish the match.

The Seahawks take on Campbell (7-6, 2-1 CAA) on Sunday at 1 p.m. at UNCW Courts.
