WILMINGTON, North Carolina – UNCW's Makayla Huddleston fashioned a one-hitter and was supported with a 9-1 run-rule win vs. North Carolina A&T in the Coastal Athletic Association softball series opener on Friday night at Boseman Field.
The Seahawks improved to 16-12 with a 2-5 CAA record while the Aggies fell to 7-21 and are winless in seven CAA games.
Huddleston (9-5) carried a no-hitter through 4.2 innings and struck out seven in the win.
N.C. A&T's Joey Barkhimer (3-10) was tagged for nine runs, but only three were earned due to six Aggie errors.
UNCW's Morgan Britt and Maggie Pertee each recorded two hits and were one of five Seahawks to drive in runs, along with Averie Daughtry, Addi Yates and Lauren Cope. UNCW tallied eight hits and scored three runs in the first, two in the third and four in the fourth to force the five-inning run-rule.
The series continues on Saturday at 4 p.m. The Seahawks will honor softball alumni in attendance.
