CHARLESTON, S.C. – Ali Zelaya recorded her ninth double-double of the season as UNCW women's basketball fell to Charleston, 99-63, in Coastal Athletic Association action at TD Arena on Sunday afternoon.
UNCW fell to 13-16 overall and 7-9 in the CAA. The Cougars improved to 21-6 on the season and 12-4 in the league.
The Seahawks had three players reach double figures. Taylor Henderson led the way with 17 points, including 10 in the fourth quarter, while adding six rebounds. Zelaya reached double figures for the 14th straight game with 16 points and a team-high 12 rebounds. Evan Miller scored 11 points, with nine coming in the second half. Miller is 40 points away from 1,000 in her career.
Charleston built a 31-16 lead at the end of the first quarter, shooting 12-of-21 (64%) from the field, including 7-of-11 from beyond the arc. The Seahawks committed 10 turnovers in the opening 10 minutes. Taryn Barbot scored 16 for the Cougars in the quarter with four three-pointers.
The Cougars outscored the Seahawks 13-0 in the first six minutes of the second quarter and 27-6 overall en route to victory.Â
Barbot led the Cougars with 40 points, the most in a game for a player in the CAA this season, shooting 15-of-22 from the field and 6-of-11 from three-point range. UNCW outscored Charleston 24-10 in the final quarter.
