Women's Basketball Soars Past Hampton 68-54

WILMINGTON, N.C. – Ali Zelaya tallied 18 points, 12 rebounds and six blocks and Tia Dobson added 15 points, six rebounds and five assists on her birthday as UNCW women's basketball picked up a 68-54 wire-to-wire victory against Hampton in the final home game of the regular season on Thursday night.

UNCW improved to 14-16 on the season and 8-9 in the Coastal Athletic Association, while Hampton fell to 7-21 overall and 3-14 in the league.

In head coach Nicole Woods' second season at the helm, the Seahawks have now won their most conference games since the 2018-19 season, after combining for just eight conference wins in the previous four seasons.

Zelaya collected her league-leading 10th double-double of the season and surpassed the program's 25-year single-season record of 77 blocks, set by Ioulia Boxley in 2000. Zelaya broke the record with her 78th rejection of the season late in the fourth quarter.

Jania Hall and Kate Hollifield each added 11 points, hitting clutch shots in the victory for the Seahawks.

In the fourth quarter, UNCW received key contributions from Dobson and Hall. The duo combined for the Seahawks' first 10 points of the quarter. Dobson capped off the victory for the Seahawks, diving to save a loose ball from going out of bounds. Dobson saved the possession and dished to Hollifield, who connected on a corner three-pointer to put the Seahawks up nine with 2:16 left in the game.

The Seahawks end the regular season on Saturday at 2 p.m. at North Carolina A&T. UNCW led by 10 at the half before falling to the league-leading Aggies 67-64 on Feb. 28.
