UNCW Takes Midweek Tilt From Pirates, 9-4

FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. – Reliever Aubrey Smith held East Carolina in check over four innings of relief and the Seahawks banged out 15 hits on Tuesday in a 9-4 win at Segra Park.

UNCW upped its record to 11-10 while the Pirates saw their winning streak halted at five and dropped to 12-9.

Cole Nelson homered and Tanner Thach belted a two-run double in a four-run fourth inning for the Seahawks who grabbed an 8-3 lead.

Smith (1-3) gave the Seahawks a career-long four innings out of the bullpen and was credited with the win. The red-shirt sophomore allowed a run on two hits and struck out four, tying his career high.

Six different Seahawks had two-hit games including Thach, who finished with three runs batted in. Every Seahawk starter had a hit.
Cody Wallace had two hits for the Pirates.

Ian White (2-1) took the loss in relief.

The Seahawks open Coastal Athletic Association play this weekend when they visit Campbell for three games. The series opens with a 6 p.m. start on Mar. 21.
