MOUNT PLEASANT, South Carolina – The UNCW softball team dropped a pair of pitching duels at Charleston on Saturday, falling 2-1 in the first game before the Cougars edged the Seahawks 1-0 in eight innings in the weekend finale at Patriots Point.
Charleston improved to 12-15 overall and 5-1 in Coastal Athletic Association play. The Seahawks fell to 15-11 and 1-5 in the CAA through two league weekends.
UNCW concludes a 12-game road stretch on Tuesday at Coastal Carolina at 4 p.m.

Charleston's Ryley Kutter (3-3) and UNCW's Taylor Barlow (3-3) each tossed complete games in the Saturday opener with Kutter allowing no earned runs.
After two scoreless innings, the Cougars' Sierra Paradis doubled home the game's first run only to be neutralized one inning later on a Mackenzie Amodeo sacrifice fly.
Charleston retook the lead in the fifth on the basepaths and held the Seahawks scoreless the rest of the way for the win.

Another pitcher's duel saw Charleston's Mackenzie Mathis (3-9) and UNCW's Lynsie Herman each send the game to extras with seven scoreless innings.
Mathis worked around two Seahawk hits in the eighth innings and left one on base before the Cougars won it in the bottom of the frame on a wild pitch.
The Seahawks' Makayla Huddleston (8-5) took the loss in the finale after tossing a complete game in the Seahawks' Friday win.
