12 Hits Supports Huddleston's Complete Game

MOUNT PLEASANT, South Carolina – UNCW's Makayla Huddleston went the distance for the fourth time this season and was supported by 12 hits in a 10-1 Coastal Athletic Association softball win at Charleston on Friday evening at Patriots Point.

The Seahawks improved to 15-9 and 1-3 in the CAA while the Cougars dipped to 10-15 with a 3-1 league mark. The teams will play a doubleheader on Saturday starting at 2 p.m. with no game on Sunday due to anticipated weather.

Huddleston (8-4) limited Charleston to one run on four hits with three strikeouts and a walk in the seven-inning effort.

The Cougars' Mackenize Mathis (2-9) was tagged for four runs, three earned, and seven hits across five innings.

UNCW registered double-digit hits for the 9th time this season, highlighted by a pair of doubles by shortstop Maggie Pertee, who totaled three hits, scored three runs with one RBI and a steal of home to lead the UNCW offense.

The Seahawks and Cougars were locked in a pitcher's duel, 2-1, through five innings before UNCW scored three runs in the sixth and broke the game open with a five-run seventh to make it 10-1.

UNCW's Mackenzie Amodeo, Lauryn Richardson and Addi Yates drove in a combined six runs, including three in the final inning.
