Baseball Falls In 10 Innings To No. 3 North Carolina

WILMINGTON, N.C. – Nationally-ranked North Carolina scored four runs, all unearned, in the top of the 10th inning to edge UNCW, 7-3, on Tuesday in college baseball action at Brooks Field.

The Tar Heels improved to 15-2 with the road win while the Seahawks fell to 8-9.

Jackson Van De Brake broke the 3-all deadlock with a two-out bases-loaded triple to right center to make it 6-3. The inning started with a Seahawk throwing error.

Tanner Thach and Trevor Lucas both had two hits for the Seahawks. Thach belted a two-run homer in the first and Lucas collected a pair of doubles.

Luke Stevenson homered twice for UNC and Gavin Gallaher had two hits, including a homer of his own.

Matthew Matthijs (1-0) earned the win and Trace Baker (0-1) took the loss.

Tuesday attendance was 3,242, which ranks as the fifth highest for Brooks Field.

The Seahawks host Charlotte this weekend in a three-game series beginning Friday at 6 p.m.
