Softball Falls to Michigan, NC State on Saturday

RALEIGH, North Carolina – The UNCW softball team dropped two Saturday games, falling 2-1 in a pitcher's duel to Michigan before a 14-1 run-rule setback to host NC State, at the Dail Softball Stadium.

The Seahawks (14-5) close out the weekend on Sunday at 10 a.m. against the Wolverines (12-6).

GAME 1 | Michigan 2, UNCW 1
Junior Makayla Huddleston (7-2) allowed one earned run in six innings of work but was on the wrong end of a pitcher's duel against Michigan starter Erin Hoehn (7-2), who tossed 4.2 innings without allowing an earned run.

The Wolverines plated two runs in the third inning on an Indiana Langford groundout and held off a fifth-inning Seahawk rally for the win.

UNCW scored a run and loaded the bases in the fifth but Wolverine reliever Lauren Derkowski escaped the jam and tossed two more scoreless innings to close it out and earn her second save.

GAME 2 | NC State 14, UNCW 1 (5 innings)

NC State used a 10-run third inning, including a grand slam by Michele Tarpey, to split a pair of games against UNCW this weekend.

Tarpey and Hannah Church, who also homered, combined for nine RBI in the win.

The Seahawks scored their lone run of the game in the top of the third when Arial Pearce drove in Mackenzie Amodeo, who doubled with one out.

NC State's Wynne Gore (3-2) tossed five innings of one-run ball while UNCW's Taylor Barlow (3-1) was charged with the loss.
