WILMINGTON, North Carolina – Sophomore Madison Biddle homered for the second straight day and senior Arial Pearce produced a three-hit game as the UNCW softball team split two games on Saturday vs. Le Moyne and Syracuse at Boseman Field.
UNCW (2-2) cruised to an 8-0 run-rule victory over the Dolphins (0-4) with a season-high 11 hits before falling 4-0 to the Orange (4-0) in the Saturday capper of UNCW's season-opening tournament.
The Seahawks conclude the weekend on Sunday vs. Queens (N.C.) at 12:30 p.m.
GAME 1 | UNCW 8, Le Moyne 0 (five innings)
Eight different Seahawks recorded a hit, highlighted by a three-run home run in the first inning by Biddle as UNCW swept both games this weekend over Le Moyne.
Sophomore Allison Corbin started the day with a two-run double to left center to make it 2-0 after Cassidy Relay, Pearce and Maggie Pertee recorded back-to-back-to-back singles.
With two outs and two on, Biddle launched her second home run of the season over the left-center wall to cap the five-run first inning.
Pearce singled home Relay in the second to extend the Seahawks lead to 6-0.
Veterans Morgan Britt and Mackenzie Amodeo drove in runs in the fifth to complete the run-rule, 8-0.
Sophomore right-hander Makayla Huddleston (1-1) fashioned a two-hitter with seven strikeouts in five innings.
Le Moyne's Rose Nicastro (0-1) was charged with one earned run on eight hits in three innings.
GAME 2 | Syracuse 4, UNCW 0
Syracuse's Julianna Verni (2-0) tossed a complete game with three strikeouts and only two hits allowed as the Orange pushed their weekend record to 4-0.
UNCW's Peyton Eckert (0-1) pitched three innings and allowed one run. Sophomore Taylor Barlow limited Syracuse to two runs in four relief innings.
The Orange walked in a run in the third and then added a trio of insurance runs in the sixth on three singles.
