Biddle Homers in Doubleheader Split

WILMINGTON, North Carolina – A trio of Seahawks – Madison Biddle, Maggie Pertee and Cassidy Relay – combined for nine hits over two games as UNCW split its season-opening softball doubleheader vs. Syracuse and Le Moyne on Friday evening at Boseman Field.

The Seahawks stand 1-1 on the young season after an 8-2 victory over Le Moyne (0-2) in the nightcap after Syracuse (2-0) rallied for a 5-1 win over UNCW in the Seahawks' first game of 2025.

UNCW resumes action on Saturday with another twinbill against Le Moyne (3 p.m.) and Syracuse (5:30 p.m.)

GAME 1 | Syracuse 5, UNCW 1

The Seahawks struck first with a third-inning RBI single by Pertee in her UNCW debut, but the Orange plated three in the fourth and added two runs in the seventh for the win.

Syracuse pitcher Madison Knight (1-0) pitched a complete game with 10 strikeouts and did not allow an earned run.

Opening Day starter Makayla Huddleston (0-1) took the loss in 3.2 innings of work while southpaw Lynsie Herman tossed 3.1 innings and surrendered a pair of runs in her collegiate debut.

Syracuse second baseman Peyton Schemmer put the Orange ahead after Pertee's breakthrough with a two-run single in the fourth. Top-of-the-order hitters Jadyn Burney and Madelyn Lopez each had two hits and drove in a run for Syracuse.

GAME 2 | UNCW 8, Le Moyne 2

Biddle and Relay combined for six hits and four runs as the Seahawks picked up their first win of 2025 over Le Moyne with 10 hits.

Biddle's first home run of 2025 (and the first by a Seahawk this season) was a go-ahead, opposite-field shot that flipped a 2-1 deficit into a 3-2 lead in the second inning.

The sophomore shortstop added a third RBI in a five-run fifth for UNCW that started with Arial Pearce, who drove in the Seahawks' first run in the bottom of the first, driving in Relay on a single to left field.

Pitcher Taylor Barlow (1-0) went the distance in her Seahawk debut with five strikeouts and no earned runs allowed. The Charlotte transfer scattered four hits and stranded six Dolphins.

Le Moyne's Nevaeh Ross (0-1) was charged with four earned runs in four innings in the loss.
