NEWARK, Delaware -- Â The UNCW men's basketball team used a 17-3 run midway through the second half to move past Delaware, 77-67, in Coastal Athletic Association action on Thursday night at the Bob Carpenter Center.
The Seahawks extended their season-long winning streak to seven games and stand 19-5 and 9-2 in the league. The Blue Hens fell to 11-13 and 4-7 in the circuit with their fifth straight setback.
UNCW's Donovan Newby notched his seventh 20-point effort of the season to lead all scorers. UNCW recorded at least four in double figures for the sixth straight game courtesy of efforts by Harlan Obioha (14), Khamari McGriff (12) and Sean Moore (10).
Delaware also registered four in double figures: Izaiah Pasha (19), Trent Middleton, Jr. (16), John Camden (13) and Tahron Allen (10).
The Seahawks entered the second half ahead 41-33, but Delaware trimmed its deficit to a single possession, 50-47, with five straight points at the 11:21 mark.
A McGriff fastbreak dunk kick-started 12 unanswered points for the Seahawks in part of the decisive 17-3 run that pushed their lead to a game-high 17 points, 67-50, and kept their advantage in double digits the rest of the way.
UNCW continues its two-game road swing on Saturday at 2 p.m. at Drexel. The game will be televised nationally on CBS Sports Network.
