Thrilly in Philly: Seahawks Win at Buzzer in Double Overtime

Williams goes coast-to-coast to bank in the game-winning layup

PHILADELPHIA, Pennslyvania – UNCW junior Greedy Williams went coast-to-coast to bank in a game-winning layup at the buzzer in an 81-79 double-overtime thriller at Drexel to give the Seahawk men's basketball program 20 wins for the fourth straight year on Saturday afternoon at the Daskalakis Athletic Center.

The 2024-25 Seahawks (20-5, 10-2 CAA), who have won eight straight, became the first league team to achieve 20 wins and is the fastest UNCW team to 20 wins since the 2016-17 CAA Championship team started 20-2.

UNCW's Sean Moore matched his career-high with 23 points to go with 15 rebounds for this third double-double of the season. Forward Khamari McGriff delivered 16 points and six rebounds while Harlan Obioha and the heroic Williams each contributed 14 points.

Drexel's Jason Drake scored 21 points and was joined in double figures by Yame Butler's 17 points, a Kobe Magee double-double of 16 points and 10 rebounds while Shane Blakeney rounded out the quartet with 13 points.

The exciting finish was set up by a pair of three-pointers by Magee in the final 22 seconds as Drexel erased a 79-73 deficit to tie the game at 79-all with 4.7 seconds left.

Williams took the in-bound pass from Bo Montgomery and turned on the speed. The Montgomery, Ala., native raced the distance of the court right towards the basket where the left-hander banked a right-handed layup off the glass at the buzzer to send the Seahawk bench into a frenzy.

Drexel overcame a nine-point deficit to tie the game in the final minute of regulation to send it to the first overtime period. The never-quit Dragons rallied again in the extra period with five points in the last 17 seconds to send it to a second overtime before Williams called game.

UNCW returns home on Thursday when it hosts rival Charleston at 7 p.m. on Thursday before a nationally-televised audience on CBS Sports Network.
