Softball Victorious Over Queens and NC State

RALEIGH, North Carolina – The UNCW softball team opened its fourth non-conference tournament weekend of 2025 in a big way with an 11-6 victory over Queens (N.C.) and a 5-4 win over host NC State at Dail Softball Stadium on Friday.

The Seahawks have won 12 of their last 13 games and stand 14-3 on the season with their second win over the Royals (3-5) this season and their first win over the Wolfpack (12-6) since 2017.

UNCW continues its season on Saturday with a doubleheader against Michigan (Noon) and NC State (5 p.m.)

GAME 1 | UNCW 11, Queens 6
Sophomore Madison Biddle crafted the first multi-home run day in three seasons with a pair of round-trippers along with a career-high 5 RBI, three hits and three runs scored to pace the Seahawks, who had 12 hits.

Sophomore Cassidy Relay and Ava Tsiouplis recorded two-hit days while Lauryn Richardson, Arial Pearce, Maggie Pertee and Sierra Persinger drove in runs in addition to Biddle.

UNCW struck for five runs in the first inning capped by a three-run shot by Biddle after Pearce doubled home the first run of the game.

The Seahawks lead 8-0 after 3.5 innings before the Royals scored five runs, four unearned, off a grand slam by Caroline Johnson. Johnson's shot was the first of two Queens home runs, with Lauren Byrd launching one in the sixth.

Biddle's second home run came in the fifth, a solo shot to left, and then UNCW capped its 11-run day with a pair of runs in the sixth.

Freshman Lynsie Herman (3-1) tossed a career-high six innings and surrendered one earned run while the Royals' Kenzie Forrester (0-1) was charged with the loss.

GAME 2 | UNCW 5, NC State 4
Pertee fashioned four RBI in the nightcap, including her second home run of the season, as UNCW held off a late NC State rally for its third win over a Power 4 program in the last three years.

The reigning CAA Co-Player of the Week and Lauryn Richardson were the lone UNCW players with two hits.

The Seahawks scored five runs in the first two innings and held the Wolfpack scoreless through five innings before a pair of two-run home runs by Hannah Church and MaKayla Marbury pulled NC State within one run entering the final inning.

Sophomore Peyton Eckert tossed 1.1 innings of relief in which she stranded the would-be game-tying and winning runs on base in the seventh to seal the win.

Sophomore Makayla Huddleston (7-1) earned her seventh win of the season across 5.2 innings.

NC State's Rylee Wyman (4-2) was tagged with the loss.
