Softball Blanks Rider for 10th Straight Win

WILMINGTON, North Carolina – The UNCW softball team ran their win streak to 10 games with a 5-0 shutout victory over visiting Rider on Sunday afternoon at Boseman Field.

The Seahawks (12-2) matched their program record with 10 consecutive victories, which was last achieved in 2017.

Rider dipped to 1-4 in their season-opening weekend with pitcher Anna-Mari Groskritz (1-1) and gave up one earned run in a complete game effort.

Freshman Lynsie Herman (2-0) shined in the circle with three scoreless relief innings in what was a bullpen game for UNCW.

The Seahawks achieved double-digit hits for the seventh time this season. Outfielder Morgan Britt extended her season-long hit streak to eight games with a pair of hits, including a double, and was joined by Maggie Pertee, Cassidy Relay and Ava Tsiouplis with two-hit days.

UNCW broke the game open with a four-run second inning that included a two-run single by Tsiouplis after the Seahawks scored a pair of unearned runs.

The Seahawks added another run in the fourth on an Arial Pearce RBI groundout.

UNCW aims for a program record win streak on Wednesday at East Carolina at 4 p.m.
