WHOOAAA NELLY!!! Seahawks Clip UNCA

WILMINGTON, N.C. – Cole Nelson's three-run pinch-hit homer in the bottom of the eighth lifted UNCW to a 4-3 win over UNC Asheville on Saturday at Brooks Field.

The Seahawks ran their record to 4-3 and gained a series win while the Bulldogs dropped their third consecutive game to move to 3-3.

Trailing 3-1 with two outs in the eighth inning, Brock Wills was hit by a pitch to get the rally started. Kevin Jones followed with a walk leading to Nelson's game-winning theatrics.

UNCW reliever Cyle Phelan (1-0) earned the win, striking out two in 1.2 innings.

UNCA closer John Whiteside (0-1) was saddled with the loss.

UNCA's Owen Michelson had the lone two-hit game of the game.

Seahawk starter Trace Baker struck out a career-high seven in 5.2 innings.

Clay Edmondson held the Seahawks in check over five innings, allowing one run.

The series wraps up on Sunday with a 2 p.m. start.
