Men's Basketball Falls to Elon, 81-70

WILMINGTON, North Carolina – The UNCW men's basketball team fell 81-70 to hot-shooting Elon on Saturday night at Trask Coliseum.

The Phoenix (16-11, 7-7 CAA) snapped the Seahawks' (21-6, 11-3 CAA) nine-game winning streak behind TK Simpkins' career-high 32 points.

UNCW's Sean Moore reset his benchmark with 28 points while Nolan Hodge's 18 points were his most in a league game this season.

Simpkins was joined in double-digits by by TJ Simpkins' 13 points, Isaac Harrell with 11 and Sham Sherry's 10 points.

Elon hit 10 of their season-high 15 three-pointers in the first half to build a 46-39 lead at halftime.

The Seahawks, who shot 46 percent from the field, battled back to make it a one-point game twice late in the second half, but the Phoenix never relinquished the lead and closed the game with an 11-2 stretch that included six free throws.

UNCW begins a three-game road swing on Thursday at William & Mary at 7 p.m.
